hidell brooks gallery is pleased to be a part of the 13th annual art for heart auction to be held on february 2 at 7 pm at founders hall in uptown charlotte.  this year’s art with heart auction is both a fundraiser and a celebration now that safe alliance has opened its new 80‐bed clyde and ethel dickson domestic violence shelter. hidell brooks had a chance right before christmas to get a sneak peak at the new shelter and were in awe after touring the facility. the new shelter replaces the old 29‐bed facility that was cramped, crowded and always filled beyond capacity. proceeds from art with heart will directly benefit women and children seeking sanctuary from violent abusers.

walls have been torn down and new ones are going up!  hidell brooks gallery is moving along with our expansion.  it was quite daunting for a while after the walls came down and we were looking at a very large open space.  now that the floating walls are up, we are getting good vibes from the new space.  there is going to be plenty of room to hang all the amazing art headed our way from each of our artists to help us celebrate our reopening 15th year annivery show in march.  it will be here before you know it.  we are still in the gallery daily even with the noise enjoying the show.

paintings by charles walker are featured in 2013 hgtv dream house.  the home is on kiawah island near charleston and lives up to it's dream home title.  six paintings by charles are stacked in the stairwell and there are a couple more in the upstairs hallway.   they look incredible and provide a great burst of color.

the arless day exhibition landscapes to life at daniel stowe botanical garden opens tomorrow night january 19th from 6-9.  hidell brooks gallery went down to dsbg yesterday to install the exhibition of 14 collages by arless day that feature various plants and orchids.  daniel stowe has been hard at work setting up an installation of seven enlargements of arless' collages alongs side the actual plants feature in the artwork.  we were blow away!  their team has done a fabulous job and the results are well worth the visit!

art and orchids is a solo exhibition of arless day collages and orchids at the daniel stowe botanical garden. the opening is jan 19th from 6-9 pm at the gardens and arless will be present to explain the importance of plants in his collages.

happy new year! we have been busy around hidell brooks gallery getting ready for the big expansion. the first phase of re-doing the existing viewing room and store room was completed right before christmas. new carpet was laid down and everything painted a beautiful bright white! the new bathroom floor did not arrive in time so we are making do with concrete for now.
