hidell brooks is having their first solo exhibitions in the new expanded space on friday, june 7th from 6-8 pm. we will be opening shows for tony hernandez, ron porter and ben shamback. all three artists delivered their recent paintings to the gallery this week straight from their studios. all three will be on hand friday night for the opening.
atlanta artist tony hernandez is know for his oil + encaustic on birch panel paintings of figures adrift in a nonexistent landscape. at first his minimal paintings look simple in form but are very complex in meaning and tend to evoke emotion from the veiwer.

when hidell brooks first saw the truck paintings by ron porter we were very much taken with them. the more we learned about his motivation behind his paintings we were in love. most of his paintings have a psychological reasoning to them whether it be a truck flying through the air with a bed full of gravel or a deer jumping over the road nearly missing an unwanted fate. ron porter's paintings are not only technically perfect but there is much thought placed behind the imagery.

ben shamback lives and works in mobile, al. he is a professor of art at the university of south alabama. his amazing oil on copper still life paintings are beautiful to behold. ben's paintings are a study in the relationship of support, paint and process. the harshness of the copper is in sharp contrast with the delicate still life objects.
