one of our wonderful artist miranda lake sent us a lovely book recently. house proud: unique home design louisiana written by new orleans based interior designer and style maven valorie hart is a visual feast of innovatively designed homes in the state. miranda lake's 1910 victorian shotgun house in new orleans is featured in the book. the sneak peek into her home is like looking into one of her paintings that has come to life in a sense. objects displayed throughout her home have made appearances in her paintings over the years. a typewriter with steer horns sitting atop a table to the coral fans from the ocean hanging above her bed have all taken center stage in her oil and encaustic woks.

while the house is beautiful the meandering gardens leave visitors enchanted. we remember fondly miranda telling us at dinner one night after one of her openings how she had just parked a double decker bus in her backyard right beside the pool to use as a playhouse. we are hoping to be able to have a long dinner in miranda's fabulous garden and play soon!
