portraiture has been around since the beginning of time. from cave man drawings, ancient greek sculpture, john singer sargent to andy warhol portraits just have never gone out of style. hidell brooks has always been fascinated by figurative paintings in general. if you take a look at our gallery artists you will find a lot of figures lurking in our artist's paintings. so when sarah helser agreed to accept portrait commissions we were delighted. sarah is an incrediibly talented painter who is having her first solo exhibition at the gallery this fall.
the above portraits are katharine's two daughters. as soon as sarah agreed to accept portrait commissions katharine did not hesitate one second to sign her kids up! she is beyond pleased with the results and feels very fortunate to have these two remarkable paintings hanging in her home.
sarah starts the process with a photo session of the subject. she then chooses select photographs which she feels will translate best into a painting. the portrait takes around six months to complete. the first step is drawing the image on the board followed by paint. when the paint has dried and sarah is satisfied with the portrait a layer of encaustic is applied with a final layer of resin to finish it off.
a portrait painted by sarah helser is to be cherished for a lifetime. a 21st century interpretation of portraiture at it's best. please call the gallery for further information on sarah's paintings and portraits.
