insta week review

August 28, 2015 Hidell Brooks

recent install of kate long stevenson painting

lots going on at hidell brooks as the end of summer has engulfed us.  this weekend we are hanging our two fall opening solo exhibitions for arless day and susan mcalister.  both north carolina artists' shows are beyond amazing and we cannot wait to see their work hung in the gallery.  lots more details to come next week.  with so much news to share we thought an instagram review was in order.

the spectator hotel has opened recently in charleston,sc and is not to be missed.  a large abstract painting by sally king benedict sets the tone with fabulous interiors by jenny keenan design. looking forward to staying at the spectator on our next trip to charleston!

we are in love with the frog and butterfly in this recent david kroll painting that went to a wonderful collector.  the new koi painting below just arrived from david's studio and will be back from the framer next week!

beth keim of lucy & company recently redesigned her own home and hung three ink, acrylic & powdered graphite on paper drawings by mel rea in her family room.  love everything about this room!

sad to see this group of paintings by jacob cooley go out the door last week.  the light he creates in his marsh paintings trancends the place.  thrilled to be picking up new paintings from his studio next week just in time for the opening.

we are going to start a series inside the artist's studios.  we get the privilege to step into the studios of a lot of incredible artists.  the experience is close to stepping into one of their paintings being surrounded by their materials, the smells, and their inspiration gathered over years of collecting items.  we want to share the glimpses we encounter.  above shows arless day at his studio in raliegh surrounded by his tools he uses to create his collage and gouache paintings including knives, rubber stamps, books, rolling pens and his trusty screw driver.
