lanai...sally king benedict

March 1, 2018 Hidell Brooks

hidell brooks is fired up to open lanai new paintings by sally king benedict this friday for the march gallery crawl.  atlanta artist sally king benedict is a creative force to be reckoned with applying layers and layers of mixed media to her vibrant canvases.  she is widely know for her classic faces while rendered abstractly hark back to picasso's later portraits.  her paintings include elements of both still life and landscape references bringing matisse to mind.  the current body of work was influenced by a recent trip to hawaii where the lush tropical beauty stayed in her mind's eye.  the final painting completed for the exhibition called river's map was inspired by sally's son whose love of volcanoes, map making and x marks the spot shows no bounds.

sally king benedict lives and works in atlanta, georgia.  she received her ba in studio art from the college of charleston in 2007 and also studied at central st. martins in london.  her work has been featured in elle decor, architectural digest, domino, garden & gun, and southern living among others.  growing up in atlanta, sally frequently traveled and attended art openings, exhibits, and design shows, seeking inspiration from the work of both past and contemporary artists. sally king benedict is an intuitive painter whose brushstrokes are sure and precise.  her compositions flow together combining subject matters, linking images through layers creating a narrative that is unique in it's own right.

all aspects of my life spill into my work. inspiration could come anywhere from a longing to be somewhere or travel to, from a simple color or shape, to the way i feel that day in the studio. the way i create is best achieved by actually painting or drawing and figuring out what should become of a piece rather than waiting or searching for inspiration.

we are super excited to have drink navy hill from richmond, va at the bar.  navy hill has handcrafted a specialty tequila cocktail for the opening.  navy hill chooses only top of the line, hand-selected natural flavors such as lemongrass, juniper berries, grapefruit, ginger and cardamon spice.

all available paintings by sally king benedict are on our website under her artist's tab.  the opening is friday, march 2nd from 6- 8 pm and sally will be in attendance.  please call the gallery if you have any additional questions.
