page davis + rick beck + charles walker

May 4, 2018 Hidell Brooks

the southend gallery crawl is on tonight from 6-8 pm with three solo exhibitions opening for page davis, rick beck and charles walker.  all three carolina artists will be here tonight to celebrate their work.  the gallery is a rainbow of color from rick beck's bold cast glass sculptures to the vibrant canvases by page davis with their washes of paint flowing down the surface.  combining the work of artists who embrace color and use tones to evoke emotions has a powerful effect on the viewer.  you only have to step inside the gallery to feel the energy radiating off the work.

series of paintings by charles walker

charles walker received his ba in art from wake forest university and his mfa in studio arts at university of georgia.  this new body of work was strongly influenced by the music of the beach boys.  "my work is primarily interested in some of the more intangible aspects of the human experience - mood, tone, and the atmospheric nature of how we as humans perceive the world. i don't look to art to tell a story, to take up issues - whether social or political. all i look to art to do is to simply exist and in so existing to express something in the simplest and most direct manner possible.  in my case, through a simple application and repetition of line, color, and texture i try to find the mainline into the human soul shaded by my personal perception. as hard as I try to remove my biases and input i still find myself lingering around in the corners of my work."
