hidell brooks loves coming across a beautiful design book and finding our artists featured inside. such is the case in elements of style designing a home & a life a new book by erin gates. erin started her blog elements of style in 2007 giving readers an insider's view on the life of a designer from both a personal and professional perspective. she won over viewers with her charm and wit plus her take on the realities of designing a home. we love erin even more for not only including numerous gorgeously placed amanda talley paintings throughout her book but for including a whole section on how to hang art! erin has been a long time fan of gallery artist amanda talley. her advice on displaying art in your home is spot on.
erin covers all territory when dicussing art installation from the statement painting, the leaner, the gallery wall, the grid and more. she even includes the appropriate distance between paintings in the grid. one thing we are all on the same page with is everyone needs one large work of art to anchor a room. in our eyes there is no rule to how large a painting can be as long as it fits and you love it. see katharine's living room below where the painting is wider than the sofa and only leaves a few inches on top and bottom.
