women in abstract

July 8, 2014 Hidell Brooks

we are so excited for the opening of our group exhibition women in abstract.  the show opens this friday july 11th from 6-8 pm.  a few years back we were blown away by all the women painters out there producing amazing work and decided to have a group exhibition focused on contemporary women artists working in the abstract vein.  by bringing these ladies together viewers will see how different each artist approaches a canvas within the same genre.  it is an absolute pleasure to see them hung side by side in one space.

recent paintings by selena beaudry explore techniques of pouring paint into piles and letting them dry then manipulating the paint into collaged paintings.  also included in the exhibition are new drawings which are being exhibited next month in line, touch, trace at the north carolina museum of art.  drawings by windy o'connor are shown along side her recent paintings as well. the drawings are mixed media on polypropylene paper and are a study of fluid color.

over the years hidell brooks has heard many times in the gallery the statement that all abstract art looks the same.  we hope the myth will be debunked after viewing women in abstract. please call the gallery for any questions concerning the women in abstract exhibition.  the show will be up through the end of august.  many of the artists will be present at the opening friday night.
