new paintings by scott upton arrived at hidell brooks this week. his paintings are straightforward in their beauty. the deep saturation of the multiple layers of paint pulls the viewer into the depth of the painting. they are mesmorizing and remind us of the simplistic qualities acheived by the american master mark rothko.
