hidell brooks is very relieved charlotte missed out on the freezing rain event going on at the moment.  lucky for us the tempertures hovered above freezing!  we are so excited to open solo exhibitions for ruth ava lyons and johan hagaman tonight.

in tandem with ruth ava lyon's paintings hidell brooks will be exhibiting sculptures by nashville based artist johan hagaman. the mixed media sculptures made from found objects, concrete, japanese paper, copper, encaustic, tin and milk paint are intriguing, intense and emotional. 

hidell brooks is getting ready for our solo exhibitions for ruth ava lyons and johan hagaman opening on friday march 7th from 6-8pm. both of the artist's work is very strong and organic complimenting each other perfectly. 

we are avid readers at hidell brooks and always love a good book related to art.  for our first book club selection we gave each other breakfast with lucian by geordie greig for christmas.  after the title reads the astounding life and outrageous times of britain's great modern paintier which is a slight understatement after the last page in the books is turned.

new paintings by david kroll arrived just in time for winter storm 2014.  the abundant snow turned charlotte into a winter wonderland full of beauty at every turn.  david kroll paints personal refuges and interior landscapes - places to visit for solace and sanctuary.

hidell brooks gallery is thrilled to be sponsoring baby bundles annual coffee this thursday, february 13 from 9-10 am at the myers park country club.  baby bundles is a local charity founded by emily harry, heather leavitt and cat long.

hidell brooks gallery is headed to winston salem today for the opening of our pop up gallery.  this is our second year for the pop up in winston and we have been working hard delivering and installing all the art. 

a review of eric aho's most recent solo exhibition in new york city is in the january issue of artforum magazine.  the review is written by donald kuspit an american art critic, poet, and distinguished professor of art history and philosophy at the state university of new york at stony brook and professor of art history at the school of visual arts. 

it is not to late to get tickets for art for heart 2014!  the art auction benefits safe alliance and is their main fundraiser for the year.  the event is held at founder's hall in uptown charlotte on february 1st.

wonderful install this week of a pair of windy o'connor paintings in a client's family room.  the paintings anchored the whole room beautifully.  windy o'connor makes abstract painting look effortless.
