hidell brooks gallery is finally hanging in the new space just in time for the big opening next week.  eric olsen, art installer extraordinaire, has had his work cut out for him.  there are 34 artists in the 15th year anniversary exhibition.

hidell brooks gallery is thrilled to be showing the incredible cast glass sculptures by the ultra talented rick beck.  rick does not need much introduction for he is well known in the glass world having been teaching at the penland school of craft since 1988.   he received a mfa from southern illinois university.  in 1994, rick was awarded a visual arts fellowship by the north carolina arts council, followed by a national endowment for the arts regional visual arts fellowship from the southern arts federation in 1995.

hidell brooks gallery has a new website!  we did not think it was enough just to expand our existing gallery to double the space, we needed to overhaul the website as well.  we listened to our clients and were frustrated ourselves that our old site was done in flash therefore the site could not be pulled up on iphones, ipads, imacs and the list goes on.

hidell brooks gallery had a fabulous time in winston salem a couple of weeks ago when we had our first ever pop-up gallery.  we called it the hidell brooks neill gallery for the week.  the pop-up was held at the gorgeous home of scottie neill.  somehow her home ate up over 150 works of art we brought up to winston for the three day event.  we had a wonderful cocktail party the first night with delicious food provided by 1703 restaurant.  beautiful music was played on the piano and together with the art it was quite a treat.

hidell brooks gallery recently took a quick day trip down to charleston to check out the studio of kate long stevenson.  we have known kate quite a while and thought she would be a perfect additional to our stable of artists.  kate has a wonderful color palette and puts it to good use with deliberately thick brush strokes at the same time leaving lots of raw white canvas around to give them room to breathe.  we had a fabulous time visiting with Kate who is the sweetest and lunch at rue de jean was delicious. 

hidell brooks gallery was pleased to sponsor a five year old basketball team at the dowd ymca.  the ymca's mission is to put christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. ymca youth sports programs promote healthy kids, families and communities by placing a priority on family involvement, healthy competition, the value of participation over winning, and team building.

third time's the charm on a recent installation.  there were a few framing issues starting with the plexiglass then somehow the brand new frame got chipped until we finally delivered for the third time handling the framed selena beaudry collage like a baby.  the collage framed up is large and very heavy.  it is quite an impact in the kitchen/breakfast room and with the contrast of the yellow lamps can you say gorgeous.  hidell brooks got their work out!  interior design by the fabulous lindsay coral harper.

hidell brooks is featured on hillliard studio method with a testimonial by our very own rebecca brooks. we have always turned to liz hilliard to keep us toned and strong to be able to carry around the amount of art we do on a daily basis.  we cannot have our arms quivering when we are holding up surprisingly heavy art at client's homes for what seems like infinity but is actually just a few minutes.
